Where does baobab come from?
Baobab, or Adansonia digitata as it's scientifically known, is a fruit that grows on tall, thick trees across parts of Africa, the Middle East and Australia. Initially velvety and green in colour, it transforms under the hot heat of the sun into a hard, coconut-like shell. When cracked open, it reveals seeds and a white, tangy pulp.
What makes baobab truly remarkable is that it's the only fruit in the world to naturally dehydrate on the tree. No heat treatment, synthetic drying agents or chemicals are needed at any stage to preserve it. Once harvested, our local African farmers simply crack open the shell, grind the pulp into a fine powder and sieve it for purity. The result is a 100% natural, nutrient-intact superfood that is now recognised by scientists worldwide as one of the most potent foods on the planet.
The Tree of Life
You may recognise it as Rafiki's tree in Disney's The Lion King. Baobabs are one of the most ancient and remarkable trees on the planet. Commonly referred to as the Tree of Life and native to the African savannah, some trees live for over 5,000 years and grow up to 30 metres tall. During the rainy season, a single tree can store thousands of litres of water in its thick trunk, sustaining both wildlife and local communities through periods of extreme drought. For centuries, communities across Africa have relied on the baobab for food, shelter and medicine, using everything from its bark, which can be woven into rope and cloth, its edible leaves and its extraordinary fruit.
There are no baobab plantations. Every tree grows wild and is community owned, hand harvested by local farmers using methods passed down through generations. It is one of the most ethical and sustainable foods on the planet, and today its fruit is recognised globally as one of nature's most powerful superfoods.
With more antioxidants than any other whole food on the planet and over 100% of your daily vitamin C in a single serving, baobab's nutritional profile is unlike anything else in nature. It is naturally rich in prebiotic dietary fiber, calcium, potassium, magnesium, folate, iron and zinc, and its nutrients have been shown by published research to strengthen immune function, support gut health, promote glowing skin, assist iron absorption and help regulate blood glucose levels.
